As you know if you’ve lived in Florida for any length of time, you know that it can get cold in the winter. When it does, you want to make sure that your heater is working properly. In order to help make sure your system works at its peak level of efficiency, the Longwood technicians with Service One would like to clear up some common heating myths.

  1. Myth: You Should Only Use Your Ceiling Fans in the Summer
While ceiling fans are great for making you more comfortable when the weather is hot and humid, they can also work well in heating season. All you need to do is turn the fan switch to the clockwise direction and it will pull warm air down from your ceiling. You’ll be more comfortable on those chilly days and you won’t have to make your furnace work as hard.
  2. Myth: New Windows are the Best Way to Save on Energy Bills
While old windows tend to let warm air escape from your home, there are other steps you can take to keep that warm air inside instead of buying new ones. For example, make sure there is proper insulation around your water heater, pipes and ducts, and install weather stripping to make your home more energy efficient.
  3. Myth: Crank Up Your Thermostat to Heat Your Home Faster
This is one of the most common heating mistakes that people make when they arrive to a cold home. Setting your temperature to 80 degrees won’t make your home warm up any faster. All it will do is make your heater work longer and cost you more money in the long run.
